Contracts
Keep a copy of the agreement you actually signed
Contracts, leases, signed forms, warranties, the paper a landlord or a garage handed you. Photograph every page while you still have it, and download one PDF that stays on your device.
Why contracts are the case where privacy is not a nice-to-have
A receipt tells someone what you bought at a shop. A contract tells them your address, your employer, your salary, your signature, and sometimes medical or financial details that had nothing to do with the transaction.
That is why most free online scanners ask you to create an account before they will even show you the file. The account exists because the image is uploaded somewhere, and the company running the service needs to know whose it is.
This one does neither. There is no account, and there is no endpoint on this site that accepts an image or a PDF. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser's network panel, scan a page, and watch. The page loads. Nothing else does.
Contracts are also where page order matters most
A receipt is a single page and order barely matters. A contract that comes out with the signature page before the terms is worse than useless, because it looks like a complete document and is not.
The scanner keeps every page in place and gives you move, rotate and delete controls so you can put a badly-captured document right. Rotate is the one people forget: photographing a page in landscape leaves it on its side, and every reader then has to turn their head.
Getting a legible copy of small print
Contracts are dense with small print, which puts them in the same category as receipts: the resolution of the capture decides whether the result is readable.
Browsers differ sharply here. A capture taken from the camera's video stream is around 1280 pixels across, which is roughly 150 DPI on a Letter page. Full camera resolution on a modern phone is around 4032 pixels, roughly 474 DPI. On a clause of 9-point type that is the difference between a document you can read and one you cannot.
Chrome on Android and on desktop can reach the full resolution. Other browsers fall back to the video stream. The scanner displays the actual figure your browser delivered, so you can tell which you got rather than trusting a claim on a web page.
- No account to create
- No upload of your document
- Nothing retained after the tab closes
- No watermark on the PDF
A note on signatures and initials
Photographing a document records what the paper looks like. It does not make anything legally enforceable, and it is not a substitute for a signature service or a notary. If a document needs a legally recognised signature, use whatever mechanism is required where you are.
What this is for is the ordinary case: you signed something, you were handed several sheets of paper, and you want a readable copy in a file you control.
